Child poverty: The role of children's services: Leaders' Briefing (2014)
Introduction
It is widely recognised that the impact of poverty on children can be profound and far-reaching; affecting physical and mental health, cognitive development and attainment – and, it follows, lifetime outcomes (Save the Children, 2014). The role of children’s services is vital in this agenda, though local leaders must ensure that the connection between local levels of deprivation and children’s services does not mean that children’s services are simply dealing with the impact of poverty without being part of wider strategic decision-making.
